Day 1- Departure

Hello Everyone!
Today was the first day of our journey. We didn't get to bed after the U2 concert (very fun) last night until about 2AM and then had to be up and ready to leave for the airport by 6:30AM. Needless to say we were alittle groggy. Our chauffeur (thanks Papa!) dropped us at the airport and after a few nervous tears (holy crap we are going to CA by ourselves!) we were on our way. Luckily due to the sleep deprivation, we slept (heads awkwardly bobbing) through most of the flights. There was a small scare during our layover in Dallas when we thought we were about to miss our next flight buuut yea we had changed time zones already aand no one told us so we actually had an hour.
FINALLY we arrived in Sacramento (which was actually a much longer flight than we thought because on paper it appeared to be only an hour and a half but damn that time change..it was actually a 3 hour flight from Dallas). Thankfully our bags both made it and we ran to the shuttle. When we arrived at Hertz, we got this rude little man who was annoyed because we didn't want his insurance or gas. But we got our car and all was well..except the trunk space..uhh one suitcase fits, the rest is in the backseat with us. Oh AAND trying to figure out how to get the top off our Mitsubishi Spyder Ecplise convertible (name dropping..yea baby!). Jen was nervous to drive the little guy but she quickly got the hang of it and after a 40 minute drive we arrived in Auburn CA.
We got here about 30 minutes ago and wouldn't you know the first thing we wanted was cheese and pretzels and a cocktail..a habit picked up from the trips with Dad.
On that note, we are off to find a liquor store to get some drinks to help us unwind. YAHOO.

Notes from the ever optomistic Jen:
  - theres a huge rat that ran past our car on our way into our room. YIKES
  - I smacked Joanna in the head with the laptop case and then she proceeded to smack herself in the head on the car
  - our car is all blind spots when the lid is on. not that I'm complaining because it's awesome!
-who knew you had to tell people to toast your bagel when you get a egg and cheese sandwhich
-we didn't see any cowboys in Dallas
-they no longer give out snacks, OR pillows and blankets. But you can get a splendid hot tea.
more to come...

All and all, the trip is off to an excellent start and we are looking forward to our white water rafting trip tomorrow (lets just say wet suits are required and they have special wool socks for sale when we get there--looks like it'll be a chilly one)!!
